Description

UX and Website Implementation for April Cornell

I was involved in the design and website implementation for April Cornell, a brand celebrated for its timeless, vintage-inspired clothing, home linens, and accessories. April Cornell’s strong brand identity, which emphasizes handcrafted quality and sustainability, required a web experience that not only reflected these values but also provided an engaging and user-friendly shopping environment. Our work, based on the BigCommerce platform, encompassed both the U.S. and Canadian e-commerce websites.

1. Discovery, UX Research, and Client Collaboration

From the beginning, this project was marked by a strong partnership with the client, who provided valuable feedback throughout the process. Key steps included:

  • Conducting UX research to understand customer behavior, identify pain points, and improve the shopping experience across devices.
  • Collaborating closely with the client to align the design with their vision, focusing on maintaining a romantic, warm tone that characterizes the April Cornell brand.

2. Website Implementation on BigCommerce

My role extended to the full website implementation on the BigCommerce platform, focusing on both the U.S. and Canadian markets. Key aspects of the implementation included:

  • Homepage Customization: I worked on redesigning and implementing the homepage, creating a balance between functionality and the warm, vintage aesthetic that defines April Cornell.
  • Custom Pages: I helped create custom pages throughout the site, ensuring that product categories, promotions, and seasonal collections were all seamlessly integrated within the user journey.
  • Responsive Design: Ensured that the site was fully optimized for both desktop and mobile users, providing a cohesive experience across all platforms.

3. SEO and Data Services

Alongside UX and design, we also implemented SEO best practices and integrated data services to ensure the site performed well in search engine rankings and could track key user metrics. This included:

  • Optimizing metadata, product descriptions, and URLs for search visibility.
  • Implementing data services to track user engagement, shopping behaviors, and conversion rates, which provided valuable insights for ongoing site improvements.

4. Branding and Design Consistency

A key goal was to ensure that the warm, romantic branding of April Cornell was reflected throughout the digital experience. By using carefully chosen color schemes, typography, and imagery, we created a shopping environment that mirrored the brand’s charm and craftsmanship.

5. Client Feedback and Iterative Design

The project was highly collaborative, with regular feedback from the client helping us fine-tune the design and functionality. Their input was instrumental in refining details that captured the right aesthetic while improving the user experience. This iterative process allowed us to continually adapt and meet both the client’s expectations and user needs.

6. Collaborative Team Effort

This project was the result of a coordinated team effort, where I worked closely with the development, design, and content teams to ensure that all aspects of the site aligned with April Cornell’s business objectives and brand. The final result was a fully implemented site on BigCommerce, tailored to both U.S. and Canadian markets, and optimized for growth.
